Our Partner, Polka Mishra, joined MONEY FM 89.3 with Lynlee Foo to discuss what happens when investors consult AI before speaking to their advisor.
✅ Clients often arrive for first meetings with some homework done, such as assets consolidated, and a rough view of their objectives. What follows has hardly changed: understanding what someone actually wants, and what is driving the decisions ahead of them.
✅ The bigger limitation of AI is objectivity. AI tends to agree with whatever viewpoint you may have. Ask whether falling markets mean you should sell and it agrees; ask whether the same falling market is a buying opportunity, and it agrees with that too. Part of an advisor’s job is to hold a position when a client is becoming emotional.
✅ An answer from AI can be reasonable in general and still the wrong fit for an individual. E.g. A product recommendation may read sensibly it may not factor in that the client’s change in residency may create a large tax implication. An advisor connects the dots
✅ Used properly, AI is an advantage, for faster research, deeper data analysis, and to absorb the operational load that eats into client-facing time.
At Javelin, our approach is that AI belongs in the engine, not the driver’s seat. Every recommendation carries responsibility, and that responsibility stays with your advisor.
